South Twin Lake Conservation Society
This site is the home of the South Twin Lake Conservation Society and The White Birch Regeneration Project. On this site you will find information about the society and archived quarterly newsletters. You can read a blog by its founder, Carl Nelson, and also find out about the books he has written. You can send your thoughts about your time spent at the lake to whitebirch@southtwinlake.org for publication here and any photographs you might like to share in the gallery. If you would like to join the society please contact us to receive the newsletter. A philosophy for the South Twin Lake Conservation Society by CJN.Co-operation is the key to survival. Voluntary helpfulness. Mutual aid. The best way to help oneself is to help someone else, or plant, or animal. Perhaps Lynn Margulis' Microcosmos; James Lovelock's, Gaia. A New Look At Life On Earth; Eric Yantsch's, The Self Organizing Universe; Brian Swimme's, The Universe is A Green Dragon, and Petr Kropotkin's, Mutual Aid should all be required reading. Prokaryote bacteria in the seas of the first 2 billion years of life on earth invented ALL the chemical processes necessary for life on earth. They shared all this information. The inventors did not hoard things for themselves alone, did not charge prices, exact concessions, conquer others. All individual things seem to be self-organizing -protons, atoms, molecules, organisms, plants, animals, the earth, stars, galaxies. Each is an authority in its own realm. For our own well being we have no alternative but to co-operate and aid the environment about us, to aid each thing we meet in being itself. The earth itself seems to be a living thing, and through the multitude of its individual parts, regulates the temperature of the earth, the salinity of the seas, and the oxygen content of the atmosphere. Without such regulation, the earth would be a third hotter today than at the beginning of life; the seas would have long since become infinitely saltier than Great Salt Lake or the Dead Sea; and the oxygen content of the atmosphere would have long ago increased to the point of world wide flammability. The creative forces in the universe -gravity, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak forces in the atom -are akin to love. The destiny and privilege of humankind is to BECOME LOVE in human form. The above philosophy comes out of the books by the authors recommended above. In view of the infinite number of problems and disasters facing the world today, perhaps a project of voluntary help based on the 'philosophy' above would be a step in the right direction. The place to start transforming the world is at home. |
